La Conmebol y la
Confederación de Fútbol de Norte, Centroamérica y el Caribe (Concacaf),
anunciaron que la Copa América Centenario 2016, que se disputará en Estados
Unidos, fue agregada al calendario oficial de la FIFA.
"Con la inclusión
del torneo, la Copa América Centenario 2016 se ha convertido en el evento más
importante para selecciones nacionales en las Américas después del mundial en
Brasil”, señaló el presidente de la Concacaf, Jeffrey Webb.
Hace unos meses se anunció
que este torneo histórico celebrará los 100 años de fundación de la Conmebol,
en el que las selecciones participantes convocarán sus mejores equipos.
"Teniendo en
cuenta que la Copa América es el torneo más antiguo de fútbol de la historia,
es un honor para nosotros estar en el calendario internacional para conmemorar
el centenario de este campeonato y de la fundación de la Conmebol", dijo
Juán Ángel Napout, presidente de la Conmebol.
En un formato de 16
equipos, las diez asociaciones miembros de la Conmebol (Argentina, Bolivia,
Brasil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Perú, Uruguay y Venezuela) estarán
acompañadas por seis asociaciones miembros de la Concacaf, incluyendo a Estados
Unidos como anfitrión y campeón de la Copa Oro 2013; México, seis veces campeón
de la Copa Oro, y Costa Rica, campeón de la Copa Centroamericana 2014.
Los otros tres
representantes de la Concacaf incluirán al campeón de la Unión de Fútbol del
Caribe, que será definido en la Copa del Caribe, la cual se jugará en Jamaica
en noviembre de este año.
A TOMAR EN CUENTA
la próxima Copa
América tendrá lugar en Chile en 2015 (11 junio-4 julio), con el formato
habitual, y la edición excepcional de 2016 tendrá como escenario Estados Unidos
(3-26 de junio).
La Copa América
Centenario será una edición especial del torneo de selecciones más antiguo del
mundo. Estados Unidos será la sede y participarán los mejores 16 equipos del
continente americano.
La Copa América estará
de vuelta en 2016. La Copa América Centenario será una edición especial
conmemorativa a los 100 años del primer certamen continental disputado en 1916.
Uruguay fue el primer campeón y celebró el primer título en Argentina.
Estados Unidos será
por primera vez sede de una Copa América y tendrá el honor de acoger la Copa
América Centenario. El torneo arrancará el próximo 3 de junio y acabará el 26
del mismo mes. Las sedes son: Stanford, Washington, East Rutherford, Pasadena,
Houston, Orlando y Miami.
Las diez selecciones
de Sudámerica están confirmadas para la Copa América Centenario. De la
Concacaf, el anfitrión Estados Unidos, México y Jamaica están confirmados.
Costa Rica es el invitado especial y las dos selecciones restantes saldrán de
la Copa de Oro 2015. Las cuatro selecciones mejores ubicadas, quitando a las ya
clasificadas, se enfrentarán entre sí por clasificar a la edición especial de
la Copa América.
¿Cómo se jugará la
Copa América Centenario? Habrán cuatro grupos con cuatro selecciones en cada
una y clasificarán a cuartos de final las dos mejores selecciones de cada
grupo.

La Copa América nunca
ha sido ganada por una selección de la Concacaf. A lo mucho, México fue finalista en 1993 y
2001.
CONMEBOL and Football Confederation of
North, Central and Caribbean (CONCACAF) announced that Copa America 2016 Centennial,
to be held in the United States, was added to the official FIFA calendar.
"With the inclusion of the tournament,
the Copa America 2016 Centennial has become the most important national in the
Americas after the World Cup teams event in Brazil," said CONCACAF
President, Jeffrey Webb.
A few months ago it was announced that this
historic event will celebrate the 100th anniversary of CONMEBOL, in which the
participating teams convened their best teams.
"Given that the America's Cup is the
oldest soccer history tournament, it is an honor for us to be in the
international calendar to commemorate the centenary of this championship and
foundation of CONMEBOL," said Juan Angel Napout, President of CONMEBOL.
In a 16-team format, the ten CONMEBOL member
associations (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay,
Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela) will be accompanied by six member associations of
CONCACAF, including the United States and host and champion of the 2013 Gold
Cup; Mexico, six times winner of the Gold Cup, and Costa Rica, the Central
American Cup champion 2014.
The other three include representatives of
CONCACAF champion the Caribbean Football Union, which will be defined in the
Caribbean Cup, which will be played in Jamaica in November this year.
TO CONSIDER:
the next America's Cup will be held in Chile
in 2015 (June 11-July 4), with the usual format, and the exceptional 2016
edition will be staged United States (June 3-26).

teams will leave the Gold Cup 2015. The four best teams located, removing the
already qualified, they will face each other to qualify for the special edition
of the Copa America.
How America Centennial Cup will be played?
There will be four groups with four teams in each and qualify for quarter-final
the best two teams of each group.
THE DATA:
The America's Cup has never been won by a
selection of CONCACAF. At best, Mexico was a finalist in 1993
and 2001.
